We have socials once a month (except November, December, and January). Tennis on those days is played in a round robin format on four courts. (The Social Director will give you the format.) We do 4 rounds of 25 minutes each.
Hosting socials is done in a partner format; two partners host, and the hosts will be given $75.00 to spend on the social. Another host will fill in if there is a shortage of players.
Warmup is at 8:30 a.m., with the first round played at 9:00 a.m. Pick a theme for decorations, and if you would like, ask everyone to wear a certain color (example: pink and red for Valentine’s Day). Terrie O’ Donnell puts out a newsletter at the end of the month which will have all the details of the social in it.
Hosts are responsible for:
- Decorations, such as tablecloths, all eating utensils, cups and napkins.
- Cooler and ice drinks, such as tea, Gatorade, soft drinks, vitamin water, lemonade and water.
- Four cans of balls, one for each court.
- Prizes (depending on how much money you have left). Prize examples: anything that might have tennis written on it, racquet grips, gift certificates, sunscreen, sport socks, cooling towels, etc. Three to four prizes are usually enough.
- Food. Usually everyone brings a dish to share, but sometimes the host might want to cook hamburgers (hosts need to bring their own barbecue or grill), or bring tacos and their toppings. If you like, you can collect a few dollars from each person for this, and/or you might ask everyone to bring a side dish to go with it.
