Captain’s Corner

Are you interested in becoming a captain (or co-captain) of a tennis team for the Fair Oaks Racquet Club (FORC)? If so, are you wondering what obligations you must follow?

Here are some answers.

  • A team captain (or co-captain) must be a full FORC member in good standing; a caption or co‑caption could either be an individual member or part of a family membership. (Guest membership holders are NOT permitted to be team captains or co-captains.)
  • Captains or co-captains MUST contact the respective FORC coordinator (Women’s/Men’s/Mixed Doubles) to ensure there will be no conflicts with other teams, and captains/co-captains must work with team coordinators to properly set up a new team.
  • Team captains and co-captains must make certain they have enough players for their team BEFORE registering a team with any agency (USTA, SATA, etc.).

NOTE: If a team prematurely registers with an agency but ends up failing to have enough players to field the team, the club (FORC) may face punitive actlon(s) from leagues; any such action would not be taken against the individual team but instead against the entire club. To prevent this from happening, you must receive commitments from enough players to field a full team. It is therefore highly recommended that you have more than the minimum number of players on a team as players may get injured or become unavailable to play on a match day due to work or home conflicts or other obligations.

  • Captains/co-captains MUST ensure all players are members in good standing with FORC. Players may be either full members or guest members.
  • Team captains make the line-ups in accordance with USTA/SATA rules.
  • Team captains assign what players are to bring (refreshments, balls, etc.). Typically, the home team provides after-match food and drink and cans of tennis balls for the match. Leagues have their own customs and traditions; please follow them.
  • Team captains/co-captains report the outcome of the match to the league (USTA/SATA) in a timely manner. Each league has its own timeframe for reporting results.
